SAG-AFTRA Veterans Board
Mission Statement
To honor, support, and advocate for U.S. military veterans working in film, television, and media, ensuring their voices, skills, and experiences are represented and celebrated within the entertainment industry.
Board Composition
1.
Chairperson – A respected veteran actor with both military and industry credibility.
2.
Vice Chair – Assists chair, acts as liaison with SAG-AFTRA leadership.
4.
Secretary – Keeps records, meeting minutes, communications.
5.
Treasurer – Helps with funding initiatives, sponsorships, grants.
6.
Outreach Coordinator – Connects with veteran organizations (e.g., USO, Veterans in Media & Entertainment).
7.
Career Development Officer – Focuses on training, mentorship, and job placement for veterans.
8.
Public Relations Officer – Manages public image, coordinates with press and SAG-AFTRA campaigns.
Optional: Regional reps (West Coast, East Coast, Midwest, South) to capture veterans across the country.
Key Objectives
1.
Representation & Advocacy
- Ensure veterans are included in casting calls, productions, and union decision-making.
- Advocate for authentic portrayals of service members in film/TV.

Career Pathways & Mentorship
- Create mentorship programs pairing veteran actors with established SAG-AFTRA members.
- Partner with studios to offer training, apprenticeships, and workshops for veterans transitioning into entertainment.

Outreach & Partnerships
- Collaborate with organizations like Veterans in Media & Entertainment (VME), Hire Heroes USA, and the USO.
- Strengthen ties with military film liaisons (DoD Entertainment Media Office).
4.
Health & Wellness
- Promote veteran mental health resources (PTSD support, counseling).
- Advocate for accessible healthcare within SAG-AFTRA benefits.
5. Recognition & Awards
- Establish an annual SAG-AFTRA Veterans Award to honor outstanding veteran contributions in film/TV.
- Celebrate historical veteran actors (Jimmy Stewart, Morgan Freeman, Rob Riggle, Adam Driver, etc.)
First Steps to Formation
1. Proposal Drafting – Write a formal charter/mission statement.
2.
Membership Drive – Identify and recruit SAG-AFTRA veterans (current & former service members).
3.
Board Elections – Establish an interim leadership team.
4.
Union Approval – Submit proposal to SAG-AFTRA’s National Board for recognition as an official committee or constituency group.
5.
Public Launch – Announce at a SAG-AFTRA event or via press release on Veterans Day or Memorial Day
